Cold plunge · glacier-fed pools

Water dipping

Not swimming, and not a pool. A conscious step into cold river water, five to ten minutes from the house.

River pools near Ailyak

What it is

A natural plunge into glacier-fed rivers near Shoja and Jibhi, in private river pockets chosen for safe depth, gentle flow and seclusion. Alone or guided, but slow. Stillness and breathwork before you enter; time to bask, write, or warm up with chai after.

When

Late spring to summer, April to June: refreshing but tolerable water, warm sun on the rocks afterwards, right for first-timers. Early autumn, September and October: colder dips, crisp air, fewer people.

Why it matters here

Himachalis have used these rivers for purification for centuries; many locals still start the morning in the water. The spots are off-trail, maintained for zero impact on the river, and come with local insight into what these waters mean.
